Frequently Asked Questions

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is HMRC's initiative to digitise the UK tax system. From 6 April 2026, landlords and self-employed individuals whose gross qualifying income was over £50,000 in the 2024-25 tax year must keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC. This is based on your 2024-25 tax return, not on what you earn now.

Yes. #MTDone! is listed on HMRC's Making Tax Digital for Income Tax software list and connects to HMRC via their official APIs. You can file your quarterly updates and Final Declaration directly from the app.

Bank feed integration via Open Banking is coming soon — see our pricing page for what's planned. Today, you can import transactions via CSV from any bank, or add them manually, then categorise them yourself.

Absolutely. #MTDone! is designed for portfolio landlords. Manage unlimited properties, track income and expenses per property, and generate consolidated reports.

Yes. We use bank-level AES-256 encryption for all sensitive data. Your bank credentials are never stored — we use read-only Open Banking connections.

MTD quarterly filing is free — and always will be. Sign up now and everything is free for the 2026/27 tax year, including the tax return you submit by 31 January 2028. Paid plans with property management and bank automation are coming soon — see our pricing page for what's planned.

Direct bank connections via Open Banking are coming soon and will cover all major UK banks and building societies — see our pricing page for what's planned. In the meantime, you can import transactions from any UK bank via CSV.

Yes. You can download a copy of your data from your account settings and share it with your accountant directly.

Yes. You can import bank transactions via CSV from any bank or accounting tool. Direct bank feeds are coming soon — see our pricing page for what's planned. Switching from spreadsheets or other software is straightforward — most landlords are fully set up within an hour.

Not yet — #MTDone! is currently a web app optimised for desktop and tablet. A mobile app is on our roadmap. The web app works well on mobile browsers for quick tasks like reviewing transactions.

Most landlords are up and running in under 30 minutes. Add your properties and import your transactions via CSV. Bank automation is coming soon — see our pricing page for what's planned. If you are importing historical data via CSV, allow a little extra time for mapping columns.

Yes. You can export all your data — transactions, property details, tax submissions — at any time from your account settings. You get a JSON file, or a ZIP containing that file plus your uploaded documents. Your data belongs to you.

Yes. #MTDone! keeps mortgage interest and other finance costs as their own category, separate from your other expenses, so they're ready for Section 24. Your Tax Estimate then displays HMRC's own capped 20% basic rate tax reduction on those costs.

No — foreign property income is not currently supported for HMRC submissions in #MTDone!, and you may need compatible software for this income type. It does count toward the MTD threshold alongside UK property income.

Scottish income tax rates and bands differ from the rest of the UK, and depend on where you live, not where your property is. #MTDone! doesn't work out any tax itself: the Tax Estimate on the Tax page is HMRC's own calculation, uses Scottish rates if you're a Scottish taxpayer (Welsh or England and Northern Ireland rates otherwise), and tells you which rates HMRC applied. Only our public guides and worked examples use England, Northern Ireland and Wales figures. The MTD submission process itself is the same regardless of where you live in the UK.

Filing is free right now however many properties you have. Paid plans and their pricing will be announced before launch — see our pricing page for what's planned.
